Behind the Scenes

Two signs hanging on a door with the phrases 'I want to hide' and 'I want to be seen' written in bold, dark letters.

We all feel vulnerable at times, both wanting to be recognised and yet to be hidden. Each painting I create begins with words and messages that convey meaning or paradox that I wish to explore through visual expression. The words may stay or they may be obscured by further layers. Where they can no longer be seen, they become part of the rich tapestry of the paintings surface. Much as when we meet others, they see what we present now, with glimpses of past experiences, some of which we willingly disclose, others we hide.

Art heals, connects, and inspires. It bridges inner and outer worlds, expressing emotions that touch our deepest being. Art transforms and reminds us of our shared humanity and the beauty all around us.

A cluttered art studio workspace with crushed and smeared paint tubes, used paint palettes, and multiple containers of different paints and brushes, all covered in dried paint splatters.
Gallery wall with abstract paintings, including a large piece with pinkish-red and gray tones hung on the wall, and a smaller painting with black, white, and gold accents leaning on the floor beside a floral upholstered armchair.
A person walking through a grassy field with scattered large stones, with a large boulder in the foreground and trees in the background.
Abstract graffiti art with overlapping handwritten words and phrases in various colors, including pink, orange, black, and green, on a textured background.
An artist woman with long blonde hair wearing a white blouse and denim overalls standing in her art studio, smiling, with a brown dog at her side. Behind her, there are multiple colorful abstract paintings on the wall and on the floor, as well as an easel with artwork on it and a tripod stand.
A hand-drawn portrait of a person's face, created with black ink on white paper, with visible brushstrokes and partial shadowing.

Creating my art is a dynamic process coming from and emotional place as I live in the world. The act of painting, experimentation, exploration and responding to the canvas and image developing is central. It is a thoughtful and discovery led engagement with my initial ideas that are both personal and universally knowable.

My recent works are a deeper exploration of feminine archetypes and myth, focusing on my own relationship, presence and absence.
